LONDON (AP) — The beheading of a Briton by Islamic State militants has prompted Prime Minister David Cameron to call an emergency meeting today of military and security chiefs. Cameron condemned the killing of David Haines. France and the United States have done the same.

GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (AP) — High temperatures are again expected to hinder efforts to fight wildfires in California today. A wildfire in Northern California destroyed two homes while a much larger blaze near the Cleveland National Forest has also proved stubborn. Evacuations in the north have been called off and the fire is 20 percent contained. The Southern California blaze is only 10 percent contained. About 30 homes were evacuated.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — White House speculation is intensifying around Hillary Rodham Clinton as she returns to Iowa today to pay tribute to the state's retiring Democratic senator. Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, are the headliners at Sen. Tom Harkin's annual steak fry fundraiser in rural Indianola. The event is expected to draw more than 5,000 party activists.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Officials say Iraq's new Prime Minister is following the country's constitution and renouncing his British citizenship. Iraq's constitution stipulates that an Iraqi citizen may hold multiple passports. However, anyone who assumes a senior security or government position must abandon any other acquired citizenship. Haider al-Abadi assumed office last week.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — It's back to school today for hundreds of thousands of children in the Gaza Strip where a 50-day war with Israel delayed the start of classes for about two weeks. The fighting damaged hundreds of school buildings. Gaza City streets were crowded with children dressed in a broad array of school uniforms, many accompanied by parents or older siblings.
