WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Two children were taken to the hospital on Saturday after police said their mother stabbed them in their home in a Salt Lake City suburb.
Mary Galvis of West Valley City is accused of stabbing her 12-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son multiple times until their father was able to intervene.
Police say the children were taken to the hospital in serious condition but were later upgraded to stable condition.
The 47-year-old Galvis was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.
Police say they responded to the home about 6:15 a.m. after receiving a report about a "mental subject."
A teenage sister who also was at home suffered minor injuries while trying to take the knife from her mother. She was treated at the scene.
