LAS VEGAS (AP) — After four days of repairs, a flood-damaged stretch of Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City has one lane open in each direction for passenger vehicles. The Nevada Department of Transportation says it will take weeks to rebuild and open other lanes near Moapa. Big-rig trucks are still detoured.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Gov. Brian Sandoval said "it doesn't get any bigger than this" as he signed bills to bring Tesla Motor's $5 billion battery factory to Nevada last night. It will be the biggest lithium battery factory in the world and is critical to the electric car-maker's plans to begin mass marketing a more affordable line of the vehicles within three years.
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — North Las Vegas is getting a new public library. City spokesman Mitch Fox said Friday the new library will open Oct. 8 at the $130 million, nine-story city hall on Las Vegas Boulevard North. The new location will have a dedicated computer-career center in addition to traditional library offerings.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada judge is considering whether a Saudi Arabian air force sergeant deserves a new trial following his conviction in the rape of a 13-year-old California boy on New Year's Eve 2012. Attorneys for Mazen Altaibi argued today that he deserves a new trial because a witness now admits he lied during testimony about how intoxicated Alotaibi was the night of the incident at the Circus Circus hotel.
