SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert met with Fox News Channel executives in New York City yesterday, looking to join the ranks of Republican elected officials who regularly appear on the network. Utah State University political scientist Damon Cann says TV appearances are likely part of Herbert's continued efforts to raise Utah's profile.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A former Sevier County pest control official is facing allegations that he skimmed insecticide and resold it, pocketing some $70,000. Now-retired mosquito abatement director John Johnson is accused of altering records to make it look like his crews used more bug spray than they actually did, then reselling the extra at a discount.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A $5 million quick fix could have a washed-out stretch of Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City reopened today. Big-rig trucks will still be detoured onto a roundabout route that adds 50 miles and several hours to their trip. Nevada transportation officials say the repair has cost about $5 million so far.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — An appeals court has overturned the conviction of an Ogden man, saying the trial judge erred by excluding some evidence in the case. The Utah Court of Appeals ruled in the case of 54-year-old Robert McCullar, who was accused of killing a man who used a racial slur and spit on him. The case goes back to the lower court, and McCullar could get a new trial.
