FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Flint officials say they're extending an advisory for residents and businesses in parts of the city to boil tap water before using it because of possible sewage contamination.

Officials say those in the affected area should use boiled or bottled water for drinking, bathing, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

The first advisory went out Friday, and officials expanded the area affected Saturday.

The city announced Monday that it's extending the time for the advisory because water demand and use are low in the area compared to other parts of Flint, meaning it takes longer for water to flush contaminants out of the system.

Flint says it's increasing the amount of chlorine in the area and is opening fire hydrants to increase water flow.
