BOSTON (AP) — A former employee of a Massachusetts compounding pharmacy that made tainted steroids blamed for the deaths of 64 people has been arrested at a Boston airport.
Federal authorities say Glenn Adam Chin was arrested Thursday at Logan International Airport as he was about to board a flight for Hong Kong. He was a supervisory pharmacist at the New England Compounding Center, which has been blamed for a nationwide fungal meningitis outbreak caused by tainted steroids.
Chin was charged with mail fraud. Prosecutors say the charge is part of a larger criminal investigation. He is the first person to face criminal charges in the inquiry.
A federal grand jury in Boston has been investigating the center for the last two years.
In recent months, FBI agents have interviewed victims and their families.
