RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Burning Man counterculture festival drew a peak crowd of nearly 66,000 as it neared an end yesterday. BLM officials imposed a population cap of 68,000 on the quirky art and music festival in the Nevada desert. Last year, organizers were placed on probation for a second time in three years for violating the BLM's cap.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Two men have sued Nevada wildlife commissioners, saying current trapping regulations are causing needless suffering for thousands of "non-target" animals including dogs, golden eagles and mountain lions. Their complaint follows commissioners' Aug. 16 vote against shortening the amount of time fur trappers must check their traps. They currently must do so every 96 hours in most of Nevada.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A son of rancher Cliven Bundy has withdrawn his children from Clark County schools after his daughter was barred from carrying a pocket knife on school grounds. Ryan Bundy says that's a violation of his children's rights, and evidence of county school administrators' "communistic mentality." Virgin Valley High School Principal Cliff Hughes defended his decision to prohibit Bundy's daughter from carrying a pocket knife, citing safety concerns.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — For 10,000 years, a tiny iridescent blue fish has lived in the depths of a cavern in Nevada's desert. But a new study says climate change and warming waters are threatening the existence of the pupfish and decreasing its numbers. The national Park Service says in the 1970s, there were more than 500 pupfish, but today, there are only 92.
