MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Basketball Australia says Seattle Storm star Lauren Jackson has withdrawn from the world championships later this month to undertake further rehabilitation for her knee injury
In a statement Tuesday, Basketball Australia said Jackson needs another eight to 12 weeks of rehabilitation on her knee following surgery in May.
Jackson has also elected to undergo surgery on a persistent hip problem in Melbourne on Tuesday.
While expected to make a full recovery, Jackson will miss the World Championships in Turkey from Sep. 27, as well as the opening rounds of upcoming Australia's Women's National Basketball League with the Canberra Capitals in November.
Jackson said, "I've worked so hard on my rehab program and my knee injury has actually progressed well, sadly, just not enough to compete at worlds."
