UNDATED (AP) — A new study reports success of a first-of-a-kind, experimental drug aimed at heart failure. It's being called one of the biggest potential advances against heart failure in more than a decade. Doctors say the drug, which doesn't even have a name yet, cut the chances of death or hospitalization by about 20 percent. It's made by Switzerland-based Novartis. The study was stopped early because it worked so well. Results are in the New England Journal of Medicine.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Some tax professionals say they're concerned that federal and state insurance marketplaces won't be able to get millions of required forms out in time to people using the health care law who need the paperwork to file their taxes. That could mean millions of delayed tax refunds. The same federal agency that had trouble launching HealthCare.gov last fall is facing the heaviest lift.

BRUSSELS (AP) — Russia may be facing more painful sanctions from the European Union. It's under discussion today at a summit of EU leaders in Brussels. EU leaders are assessing whether more economic pain could spur change in what is viewed as Russian meddling in Ukraine.

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's state news agency is reporting that a Cairo court has sentenced Muslim Brotherhood spiritual leader Mohammed Badie and seven others to life in prison on charges of planning riots, murder and sabotage. The case stems from violence that took place last summer after the ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. Badie has been sentenced to death in another case but can appeal.

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — Algeria's state news agency is reporting the crash of a Ukrainian civilian cargo plane in the mountains near the far southern desert city of Tamanrasset. The Antonov An-12 carrying seven crew members was on its way to Equatorial Guinea when it went down in a mountainous area after making a technical stop at a nearby airport. Three burned bodies have been recovered and the search continues for the others.
