LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A longtime University of Louisville professor will be remembered during a memorial recital featuring performances by his wife and former students.

Melvin Dickinson served as head of the Organ and Church Music Department at U of L for more than four decades.

He retired from U of L as a professor emeritus in 2001. He died in January at age 77.

In his honor, the School of Music will host an organ recital on Sept. 12 at Comstock Concert Hall.

Dickinson's wife, Margaret, will play several pieces at the concert, including a sonata she and her husband often performed together. She will be joined at the performance by several of Dickinson's former students.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted for the Melvin D. Dickinson Scholarship Award Fund.
