STATELINE, Nev. (AP) — A wildfire burning in the dry brush and timber near the south end of Lake Tahoe forced the Nevada Highway Patrol to close a stretch of the Kingsbury Grade on the Carson Valley side of the mountain.

The Douglas County Sheriff's office reports the fire that broke out about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in a remote area about half way up the mountainside. It burned about 6 acres before fire crews stopped its advance about 4 p.m.

No evacuations have been ordered, but some homes were threatened at one point in an area where the Kingsbury Grade (State Route 207) meets Foothill Road.

Crews remain on the scene and authorities are asking people to stay out of the area.
