SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials and others are reminding drivers to pay special attention to the road this week as students return to school.

AAA Utah in a statement earlier this week urged people behind the wheel to keep an eye out for more pedestrians and more people riding bicycles.

Utah Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, law enforcement officers and representatives from the Jordan School District also backed the request.

Spokeswoman Rolayne Fairclough in the statement said it's likely that more teen drivers will be on the roads this week, too. She says it's important for both the newer and more seasoned drivers to stay vigilant before, during and after school hours as bus routes and carpools get underway.

The announcement comes as K-12 students kick off the school year throughout the state.
