RUSTBURG, Va. (AP) — A Virginia woman has admitted to using a heated razor blade to try to remove tattoos that police say a baby sitter put on her two young daughters.
Media outlets say 35-year-old Melissa Delp pleaded guilty Monday to felony child abuse. She was sentenced to eight years in prison, with all but 18 months suspended.
Police say Alexander Edwards tattooed the girls, both under age 13, while caring for them at Delp's home in December 2013.
Media reports say the older sister told investigators that the tattoo was of her name and that Edwards used a tattoo gun to put it on her left shoulder.
Delp's boyfriend, Daniel Janney, also was charged with trying to remove the tattoos.
Janney and Edwards are awaiting trial on child abuse and malicious wounding charges.
