FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) — Ebola has claimed the life of another health worker in Africa -- a leading doctor in the fight against the disease in Sierra Leone. The death comes amid word that another top doctor had been considered for an experimental treatment. Ultimately, doctors decided against using the drug -- and he died before he could be airlifted out of the country. Ebola has killed more than 1,000 people in the current outbreak in West Africa. But only two Americans and a Spaniard have received ZMapp, the unproven and experimental anti-Ebola drug made in the United States.

NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) — Commuters trying to drive to New York City from Long Island today have hampered by flooding from a storm that dumped more than a foot of rain overnight. Drivers were stranded on roads where the water was as high as the door handles. One man who was rescued from a truck by firefighters says the water was up to his waist. And he saw one small car "literally floating" in the middle lane.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Broadway community will honor Robin Williams by dimming marquee lights for one minute this evening. Williams, who took his life in his San Francisco Bay Area home this week, had been on Broadway several times. He'd also been on stage with Steve Martin in an off-Broadway version of "Waiting for Godot."

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A judge in Indiana says former NBA number-one draft pick Greg Oden is free to leave the state while he awaits trial on charges that he punched his ex-girlfriend in the face. But he will have to remain on GPS monitoring. The judge today entered a routine not-guilty plea for Oden, and scheduled a trial for the free-agent center for October 22nd.

HAVANA (AP) — Cuba is marking Fidel Castro's 88th birthday with tributes in official media, a concert and a photo exhibit in the capital. There's also a newly inaugurated restoration of the home where he was born. Castro is hated by many exiles in Florida who say he ruled with an iron fist and stamped out civil liberties. But he's being celebrated on the island today as a fighter for equality and social justice who defied the U.S. for five decades. Castro rarely appears in public these days, and in recent years has not taken part in official celebrations of his birthday. He turned over power to his younger brother Raul in 2008.
