For far too long, the Jordan River through the Salt Lake Valley has been neglected and misused, even abused. But, it is an incredible natural asset that has the potential to bring vitality to the many communities along its banks.
KSL is pleased to see a renewed effort being undertaken to de-junk the river corridor and make it more attractive and appealing. Recently, on the first of several major cleanup days scheduled this summer, volunteers removed more than five-tons of garbage and debris along a mile stretch of the river. More such events are scheduled: the next one on July 15.
KSL encourages widespread support of the effort!
There seems to be convergence of interest in getting the job done, and that bodes well for the 44-mile waterway. Generous corporate sponsors - REI, Chevron and Smiths Food and Drugs - have come onboard. More ought to! Several local mayors and other political leaders are lending their support. And various community organizations and volunteer groups are coalescing in the cleanup campaign.
These are all good signs that the time has finally come to more completely rejuvenate the Jordan River and create an appealing parkway along the entire corridor from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake.
