LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Thirty-eight northern Idaho residents who didn't show up for jury duty will have to explain their reasons to a judge on Monday. Nearly half the jury pool failed to appear for a July 28 trial for a 19-year-old man charged with rape. As a result, the trial has been delayed for five months. Judge Jeff M. Brudie called for the meeting with jurors to gauge how much the current court system is to blame for the no-shows.

LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Five structures have been destroyed by a wildfire burning in northern Idaho and fire managers planned a burnout operation to halt the fire's northeast expansion. A Big Cougar Fire spokesman says the remote area accessible only by boat. The fire is on the east side of the Snake River across from Oregon and Washington state. No injuries have been reported.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A slow-moving weather system in south-central Idaho dumped nearly 3 inches of rain on Twin Falls and caused widespread flooding. Twin Falls City Manager tells The Times-News that the city's drainage system on Wednesday became overwhelmed, causing flooded streets, homes and businesses. Officials haven't supplied damage estimates for the city.

GRANGEVILLE, Idaho (AP) — Two Utah men have died in a small plane crash in north-central Idaho. The Idaho County Sheriff's Office says 57-year-old pilot David Fitzgerald and 61-year-old Randy Butters often went on sightseeing trips and were traveling to Dixie on a tour of backcountry airstrips.
