LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas smog inspector is headed to prison for six months after admitting to falsifying emissions test results for more than 1,000 cars.
A Nevada federal court judge on Wednesday sentenced 30-year-old Henry Alberto Batista to serve time in prison and six months of home confinement.
Batista pleaded guilty in March to one count of making a false statement to a government agency.
His 32-year-old brother Luis Batista has pleaded guilty to a similar charge and was sentenced in May to three years of supervised release.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1zXgolX) Henry Batista apologized in court to the judge and his family.
Prosecutors say the brothers falsified smog tests from 2009 to 2012 by using substitute cars in place of about 1,600 vehicles that did not meet emissions regulations.
