Pascagoula gets $300,000 for safety upgrades

PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi Department of Transportation has presented a $300,000 check to the Pascagoula City Council for pedestrian and bike improvement near Beach Elementary School.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1szUsux ) Southern District Transportation Commissioner Tom King was joined by representatives and other officials from the area in making the check presentation on Tuesday.

The money is Safe Routes to School funding, and the project will provide enhancements along the school route such as flashers, signs, and roadway striping to designate bike lanes and crosswalks.
