LONDON (AP) — Prosecutors have charged former tabloid editor Andy Coulson with perjury over evidence he gave in the trial of a Scottish politician.
Coulson, who is serving an 18 month-sentence for conspiring to hack phones, did not appear in a Glasgow court to answer the charges for lying under oath in the 2010 case against ex-lawmaker Tommy Sheridan. No pleas were entered Wednesday and another hearing is set for October.
Coulson edited the now-defunct News of the World tabloid between 2003 and 2007 and is accused of lying about his knowledge of the tabloid's practice of eavesdropping on the voicemail messages of celebrities and others in the public eye.
The Scottish case against the ex-aide to Prime Minister David Cameron was suspended pending the conclusion of the hacking trial.
