NORTH SALT LAKE, Utah (AP) — Most of the 27 families evacuated after a landslide in North Salt Lake are back in their homes amid concerns that the mountainside might slip even more. City Manager Barry Edwards said it's unknown when the other families will be allowed to go home, adding that everyone in the neighborhood should be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice. One house was destroyed yesterday morning when a huge chunk of land tumbled from the hill above.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A BYU student has been arrested after officials say he broke into the school's computer system to change his grades. Lindon Police and BYU Police arrested Gabriel Camacho after his former employer found files belonging to BYU and the company on the student's USB drive. Police say Camacho installed a device on a staff member's computer that allowed him to collect passwords, hack in and change a test score.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The state of Utah is formally asking the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold its ban on gay marriage. A federal appeals court in Denver ruled in June that states cannot deny same-sex couples the fundamental right to marry. The ruling upheld a December decision by a federal judge overturning the state ban. Attorney General Sean Reyes said he hopes the case is resolved quickly.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A biannual outdoor retailer show that brings thousands to Utah is underway again in Salt Lake City with the emphasis on summer recreation items. The Outdoor Retailer's summer show runs today through Saturday at the Salt Palace Convention Center. It is the world's largest outdoor-gear trade show.
