LAS VEGAS (AP) — Health officials say they've detected the first mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus so far this year in southern Nevada.

The Southern Nevada Health District reported Monday that mosquitoes with the virus were found in the zip codes 89103, 89107, 89129, 89138, and 89149.

Officials say no human cases of the virus have been reported so far this year.

The health district says it learned of nine West Nile cases in southern Nevada last year, including two patients who died of the disease.

Health officials recommend wearing bug repellant and getting rid of standing water that can turn into a mosquito breeding ground.
