MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A college president's assistant has been named to another term representing Alabama on the Southern Rail Commission.

Gov. Robert Bentley has again appointed Billy McFarland Jr. to the panel tasked with improving passenger rail service in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. McFarland has served on the commission since 2009.

The Tuscaloosa News reports (http://bit.ly/1rXiJc0 ) McFarland is a Tuscaloosa native who serves as a special assistant to the president at Judson College, a Baptist-affiliated women's school in Marion. McFarland's late father served on the Southern Rail Commission for years before his death.
