SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Free as a Bird rallied from near the back to beat Jewel of a Cat by three-quarters of a length Friday in the $100,000 Smirnoff Sorbet Caress at Saratoga Race Course.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, the 5-year-old daughter of Hard Spun ran 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf course in 1:01.98. Trained by Ian Wilkes for owner Elizabeth Valando, she paid $5.40, $3.20 and $2.40.
Jewel of a Cat returned $5.50 and $3.90, and Madame Giry paid $3 to show.
