HAMBURG, Germany, Jun 14, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A newly translated book more than 300 years old is on display in Germany during the World Cup and is evidence that soccer was invented in Scotland.
The book written in 1633 by David Wedderburn, who taught at Aberdeen Grammar School, includes passages about a kick-off, passing and scoring past a goalkeeper, The Scotsman reported Wednesday.
The book predates Britain's claim it invented soccer.
It was kept at the National Library of Scotland and was recently translated from Latin.
It's now on display at the Volkerkunde Museum in Hamburg, Germany.
