WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says there are no plans to change or cancel an upcoming summit of African leaders in the U.S. despite an Ebola outbreak in Liberia.
More than 40 African leaders are to meet with President Barack Obama in Washington next week.
White House spokesman Eric Schultz says the U.S. is aware of reports that American citizens have been diagnosed with Ebola but notes that the Centers for Disease Control has determined there's no significant risk to the U.S.
Schultz says Obama is getting regular updates on the outbreak. He says U.S. agencies are providing equipment and other support and that the U.S. is working closely with governments in the region to prevent the virus from spreading.
The highly contagious virus is one of the world's most deadly diseases.
