BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Husson University has won a $684,000 grant to support education of nurse practitioners.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration is awarding the grant to the School of Nursing at the Bangor campus.

The funding will help support the education of more than 40 full-time graduate students in Husson's Family and Community Nurse Practitioner program over the next two years.

Mary Jude, coordinator of Husson's graduate nursing programs, says the money will increase the number of primary care providers needed to meet the growing demand for medical care.
