SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a rival gang member outside a Salt Lake City convenience store last year.
Vilisoni Angilau entered the plea to the reduced charge Friday in 3rd District Court in the April 2013 death of 19-year-old Sione Fakatoufifita.
Angilau, who awaits sentencing Sept. 8, was originally charged with murder.
Angilau and other members of his Tongan Crip gang pursued Fakatoufifita through the Glendale area before finding him at the store, where he was shot multiple times. Fakatoufifita was a member of the rival Baby Regulator gang.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports Angilau is the younger brother of 25-year-old defendant Siale Angilau, who was fatally shot by a U.S. marshal as he lunged at a witness in Salt Lake City federal court in April. The witness and the Angilau brothers belonged to the same Tongan Crip gang.
