GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — The first major ground battle in two weeks of Israel-Hamas fighting has exacted a steep price. Sixty five Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers have been killed today in a Gaza City neighborhood militants reportedly used to launch rockets at Israel. The fighting has pushed the Palestinian death toll to at least 432 with more than 3,000 wounded since Israel launched its offensive. Twenty Israelis have been killed, 18 of them soldiers.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says a powerful amount of circumstantial evidence is accumulating that Russian-supported rebels in eastern Ukraine were responsible for shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, and that the Kremlin was complicit in the deaths of nearly 300 passengers and crew members. That evidence includes images of the missile firing and video of a rocket launcher leaving the likely launch site with one surface-to-air missile missing. Kerry says that video has been authenticated.

VIENNA (AP) — The United Nations says Iran has turned all enriched uranium closest to the level needed to make nuclear arms into more harmless forms. Tehran had committed to the move under an agreement with six world powers that essentially froze its atomic programs while the two sides negotiate a comprehensive deal. Those negotiations have been extended to November.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, say three teenagers ganged up on two homeless men, fatally beating them and leaving their bodies nearly unrecognizable. Eighteen-year-old Alex Rios has been charged with multiple counts including two for murder. The other two suspects are 15 and 16 years old. Police say they will likely be charged with murder as adults.

HOYLAKE, England (AP) — Rory McIlroy (MAK'-ihl-roy) in not the only winner at the British Open today. The 25-year-old from Northern Ireland won his third major by two shots over Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler. The BBC reports McIlroy's father, Gerry, and three of Gerry's friends placed a combined bet in 2004 on McIlroy winning the British Open before he turned 26. The odds were 500-1, so the group is due about $340,000 now that McIlroy has lifted the claret jug.
