HOYLAKE, England (AP) — Rory McIlroy has won the British Open. The 25-year-old is now a three-time winner of a major championship. He shot a final-round 1-under 71 to finish 17 shots under par, two in front of Sergio Garcia and Ricky Fowler. Jim Furyk (FYOOR'-ihk) was four shots off the lead at 13-under while World No. 1 Adam Scott finished 12-under.
HOCKENHEIM, Germany (AP) — Nico (NEE'-koh) Rosberg of Germany has won the German Grand Prix. Today's win increases his lead over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in the overall driver standings. Lewis finished third with four-time defending World Champion Sebastian Vettel fourth.
TORONTO (AP) —Sebastien Bourdais (bohr-DAY') won the first of today's two IndyCar races in Toronto. The plan was for there to be a race yesterday and one today but rain washed out the race yesterday. Because of the rain the races were shortened to 65 laps. The scond race is taking place this afternoon.
NIMES, France (AP) — Italy's Vincenzo Nabali remains the overall leader at the Tour de France. The winner of today's 15th stage was Norway's Alexander Kristoff. Nibali leads a racer from Spain by 4:37. Tomorrow is a day off in the long competition.
DETROIT (AP) — The Indians and Tigers are competing a four-game series in Detroit this afternoon. The Indians won the first three games of the series to cut the lead between the two teams to 4 ½ games in the American League Central.
