PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — A man arrested after a weekend shooting rampage in Pasadena has been charged with three counts of murder.
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office said Tuesday that 44-year-old John Izeal Smith also faces three counts of attempted murder.
Smith is accused of killing 90-year-old Luis Fernando Aguiar inside a house and 59-year-old Maria Teresa Aguiar outside the dwelling on Saturday.
A neighbor, 31-year-old Jose Hernandez Iribe, was also fatally shot.
Two other people were grazed by bullets and shrapnel. One of the attempted-murder counts alleges an attempt to kill a police officer.
Investigators say Smith fired a total of 40 bullets.
He was arrested after a 90-minute standoff.
Smith appeared in court Tuesday but arraignment was postponed until August. It's not clear whether he's hired an attorney.
