On Ukraine, the White House says the leaders agreed Russia has not made progress complying with steps to calm the situation.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The costs of taking in Central American children crossing the Mexican border is weighing on the nation's governors. They discussed the matter with Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Matthews Burwell at a meeting in Nashville. The governors expressed concerns about the cost to their states, including providing public education for the children.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Thousands of Palestinian residents of the northern Gaza Strip have been taking shelter. Israel is warning it plans to bomb the area as part of their offensive against Hamas. The fighting shows no signs of slowing, despite international calls for a cease-fire and growing concerns about the mounting civilian death toll in Gaza.
NEW YORK (AP) — The apes rule at the box office this weekend. "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" roared to $73 million on its opening weekend, one of the summer's best debuts, according to studio estimates. The 20th Century Fox sequel easily surpassed the $54.8 million opening to 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."
