LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas city councilmembers are continuing their crackdown on heavy drinking at the Fremont Street Experience. The council will meet today to consider strengthening an ordinance that requires nearby stores to put packaged liquor in a sealed bag after purchase. A rule set to be introduced today bans people from opening the bags while on the pedestrian mall.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Police say a 12-year-old boy who died from a gunshot wound at a Boy Scout camp in San Diego brought the handgun with him from his hometown of Las Vegas. San Diego County coroner's investigators performed an autopsy yesterday, but neither they nor police would say whether the shooting was self-inflicted or accidental.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — An aging Las Vegas Strip resort is getting a $223 million upgrade to match the hip new dining and entertainment district next door. Caesars Entertainment is overhauling The Quad and renaming it the LINQ Hotel & Casino effective Oct. 30. It's the same name as the popular pedestrian mall that opened earlier this year and features the world's tallest Ferris wheel.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A 49-year-old Carson City man has been sentenced to at least 35 years in prison for committing repeated sex acts with a child over a period of seven years. Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo says James Johnson sexually assaulted the girl beginning in 2005 when she was 8 years old.
