INDIANOLA, Miss. (AP) — Debra Dace, curriculum and testing coordinator with the Tunica County School District, has been named superintendent of the Sunflower County Consolidated School District.
Dace began work Tuesday.
Sunflower County Consolidated School District consists of the former Drew, Indianola and Sunflower County Districts.
The Bolivar Commercial reports (http://bit.ly/1k5B2qo ) that Dace has 22 years of experience in education. She began her career as a math teacher at Ruleville Central High School in 1992.
Dace also worked as a principal in Tunica and Coahoma County.
After serving as principal, Dace went on to become the curriculum and testing coordinator with the Tunica County School District, which is her current position.
Dace, who grew up outside of Greenville, said her husband also works in the Tunica County School District, and her daughter attends the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
On April 16, 2010, the Sunflower County School District, which includes Ruleville schools, was declared in a state of emergency by then Gov. Haley Barbour.
Last school year, Drew School District students were merged with students in Ruleville.
The merge was mandated by the state as Drew had been facing a multitude of problems, including poor academic performance, discipline and finances.
The three districts in the county — Sunflower County School District, Drew School District and Indianola School — are all operating under a state conservator.
