LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A July 29 evidentiary hearing has been set for a Logan father accused of chaining his 6-year-old son to a bed while the man was at work. Authorities say the boy had access to snacks and water, and the chain was just long enough that he could reach the restroom. The 29-year-old man has not entered a plea.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A judge is considering whether to order a new trial for a Utah doctor convicted of murdering his wife. The judge says he'll rule in the next 60 days on a request from Martin MacNeill to throw out his conviction and dismiss the case entirely. His defense attorney argues prosecutors failed to disclose a deal made with cellmates who implicated MacNeill. Deputy Utah County attorney says his office disclosed the deals and they wouldn't have affected a conviction.

GEORGETOWN, Colo. (AP) — Three people are dead after their small plane crashed into a slope at the Loveland Ski Area in Colorado. Authorities report a witness says the single-engine plane was trying to cross the Continental Divide. The National Transportation Safety Board determined the Piper aircraft was en route to Moab, Utah.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Utah car thief stole a minivan and returned it moments later when she spotted a three-year-old in the back seat. Salt Lake City police tell KSL-TV the 22-year-old Idaly Proano climbed behind the wheel of a Dodge Caravan that was running and unlocked Sunday. She is in Salt Lake County Jail.
