WASHINGTON (AP) — Three hundred more U.S. troops are heading to Iraq. Officials say the additional troops will help beef up security at the U.S. Embassy and the Baghdad area, and they'll protect U.S. citizens and property. That'll bring the number of American troops in Iraq to about 750. U.S. officials say the additional forces will work with Iraq as it confronts extremists from the group Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will resume an emergency meeting Tuesday, following today's discovery of the bodies of three teens abducted more than two weeks ago in the West Bank. Israel has identified two well-known Hamas operatives as the primary suspects. Netanyahu says "Hamas will pay."
EL PASO, Texas (AP) — The family of a Mexican teen killed by a Border Patrol agent can go ahead with a civil lawsuit against the agent. A federal appeals court says 15-year-old Sergio Adrian Hernandez Guereca (gway-RAY'-kuh) was protected by the U.S. Constitution, even though he was on Mexican soil when he was shot in 2010. The agent says he was attacked by rock throwers while trying to arrest immigrants who crossed illegally into the U.S.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will have to search for a different way of providing free contraception to women covered under some health insurance plans. A sharply divided Supreme Court ruled today that some companies with religious objections can avoid the contraceptives requirement in the new health care law. The high court's decision was 5-4, splitting conservatives to liberals.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers will hinge on whether owner Donald Sterling's estranged wife had the right to unilaterally negotiate a deal with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. A judge says a trial set to begin July 7 in Los Angeles will look at the terms of the family trust. It will not focus on whether the 80-year-old Sterling is mentally incapacitated. Sterling has been pushed to sell the team after making racist comments that got him banned from the NBA for life.
