SALT LAKE CITY — Ever wondered what happens in the mind of a pilot when a plane malfunctions during landing?
In this video, Marine Capt. William Mahoney talks about his experience in which the landing didn't go quite like he had planned.
As he is attempting a landing aboard a ship at sea, he realizes he might have a problem. With some help from a fellow pilot in the tower aboard the ship, they manage to figure out one of his landing gears is out.
Luckily for Mahoney, the ship was equipped with a "stool" for this very thing. Though he can't see it below his nose during landing on the flight deck, Mahoney lands the nose directly — albeit bumpily — atop the scaffolding stool.
After the captain turns off the jets, the entire flight deck crew scrambles out of hiding to welcome the shaking pilot. Come to find out, they had gotten off the deck in case something went wrong.
