NORTH LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A man shot by police at Cache Valley Hospital in North Logan will be in court next month for an evidence hearing. Prosecutors are scheduled to present evidence and testimony against 34-year-old Jason Burr during the hearing July 30. Police say Burr was shot after he entered the emergency room at Cache Valley Hospital in North Logan with two loaded handguns, demanding prescription drugs.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A judge is considering whether to order a new trial for a Provo doctor convicted of murdering his wife. The judge says he'll rule in the next 60 days on a request from Martin MacNeill to throw out his conviction and dismiss the case entirely. Defense attorney Randy Spencer argues prosecutors failed to disclose a deal made with cellmates who implicated MacNeill.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Construction has halted on a tribute to nine German prisoners of war killed 70 years ago in a central Utah town. The leader of the group building the memorial told the Salt Lake Tribune that the German government says it can no longer help pay for the project honoring the soldiers who were shot dead in Salina in 1945.
OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A 52-year-old man accused of punching another man and hitting him with his car in a dispute over pew space at an Ogden church has been ordered to spend 30 days in jail. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Wayne Dodge was sentenced last week after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge. He was also ordered to complete an anger management class and pay a fine.
