BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The Boys and Girls Club of Burlington has received a $1 million gift for educational programs and scholarships.
The gift from real estate developer Tony Pomerleau and his family was announced Monday. It is the largest in the club's history and club officials say the gift will transform its mission and educational programs and allow it to serve more Burlington children.
The Pomerleaus' gift will be distributed over 10 years to support education programs and scholarships.
On Monday, the first scholarships were awarded to seven Boys and Girls Club participants who are going to college this fall.
The Boys and Girls Club of Burlington serves about 1,000 children from kindergarten through high school.
