NEW YORK (AP) — A New York City man who was convicted of raping his former stepdaughter in an attack she revealed in a college application essay won't learn his punishment for another week.
The 62-year-old man had been set for sentencing Monday. But a judge delayed it when he sought time to prepare a response after learning the victim plans to make a written statement.
New York state law allows such postponements. The planned statement wasn't released, and the man's lawyer wouldn't comment on what his client wanted to address. He has denied the rape allegations.
The sentencing is now set for July 7.
The Associated Press is withholding the man's name because disclosing it could identify his accuser. The AP generally does not identify sexual assault victims unless they come forward publicly.
