LAS VEGAS (AP) — Motorists stopped for using cellphones while driving in Las Vegas could be offered a chance to clear their record by participating in an online program.
From Monday through July 10, Nevada Highway Patrol troopers can offer drivers with otherwise clean records a chance to complete specific online tasks for 28 consecutive days instead of paying a fine for driving while distracted.
Activities include documenting an instance where driving distraction-free kept the motorist safe, sharing a specific video on social media or taking a quiz about distracted driving.
The program is called the "It can wait for 28."
Trooper Loy Hixson tells the Las Vegas Sun (http://bit.ly/1iJv8R6 ) the Nevada Department of Public Safety, highway patrol and Clark County Justice Court are cooperating in the project.
