PROVO, Utah (AP) — A Utah doctor convicted last year of killing his wife is due to stand trial this week on a sex assault charge stemming from allegations he abused a woman more than seven years ago.
Martin MacNeill is scheduled for trial Wednesday and Thursday in Provo.
The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1pNmNKO ) that prosecutors want to present evidence that MacNeill committed other sex crimes in California.
MacNeill's attorney, Randy Spencer, says raising the issue would be improper.
Utah County prosecutor David Sturgill has said the alleged victim in the May 2007 incident will testify that MacNeill acknowledged groping her, apologized and said he thought she was his dead wife.
MacNeill was convicted in November of murdering his wife Michele MacNeill by over-medicating her and leaving her to die in a bathtub.
