LAS VEGAS (AP) — Slot machine manufacturer Bally Technologies says it's trimming about 6 percent of its workforce, or 270 jobs, as part of a restructuring effort after buying a rival. The company issued a statement saying about half of the eliminated positions were from outside the U.S. Bally chalks up the layoffs in part to a $1.3 billion buyout of SHFL entertainment.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The new general manager at Incline Village is defending putting off until fall any vote on a proposal to mandate wildlife-resistant trash containers to help stem bear problems at Lake Tahoe. The outgoing chairman of the Nevada Wildlife Commission is among those criticizing another delay in the mandatory trash bins that wildlife biologists say are the best way to keep the bears at bay.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Electric bills are going down slightly next week for NV Energy customers in southern Nevada. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that that the average residential bill will go down by $1.35 a month starting in July. The change is the result of an agreement between NV Energy, the Public Utilities Commission and the state Bureau of Consumer Protection.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The number of visitors coming to Vegas jumped 3.2 percent in May compared with a year earlier, helped by an extra weekend night on the calendar and a bump in convention attendance. A report released yesterday by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority says almost 3.6 million people came to Sin City last month, compared with about 3.5 million last May.
