WASHINGTON (AP) — Emma Meesseman had a career-high 22 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Washington Mystics to a 69-63 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Friday night.
Kia Vaughn and rookie Bria Hartley scored 12 points apiece for the Mystics (7-9), and Ivory Latta added 10. Meesseman, who tied a career best for rebounding, shot 11 for 14 from the field (79 percent) while the rest of her teammates were just under 30 percent (16 for 54).
Katie Douglas scored 18 points to lead the Sun (8-7), who had won six straight since a 74-66 loss to Washington on June 5. Alex Bentley had 11 points and rookie Chiney Ogwumike added 10. Connecticut was just 3 for 15 on 3-pointers while dropping to 1-5 on the road.
SKY 73, LIBERTY 69
NEW YORK (AP) — Epiphanny Prince scored 30 points to help Chicago hold off New York.
The Sky (7-8) were missing star forward Elena Delle Donne, who is sidelined indefinitely with a recurrence of Lyme disease. The reigning rookie of the year went home to Delaware to recover. She missed five games this month because of the disease before playing against Connecticut on Wednesday. She scored 13 points in the loss, but wasn't feeling well after the game.
Even without Delle Donne, the Sky were too much for the Liberty (4-11) because of Prince. She missed the Sky's first trip to Madison Square Garden back in May as she was taking time to recover from playing overseas in Russia.
The loss was New York's sixth in the past seven games.
Tina Charles led the Liberty with 16 points while Sugar Rodgers added 12. Cappie Pondexter was held scoreless.
MERCURY 81, FEVER 76
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Diana Taurasi scored 23 points and Penny Taylor added 20 to help Phoenix rally from 13 points down to beat Indiana.
With the score tied at 70, DeWanna Bonner stole the ball from Indiana's Marissa Coleman, who was then whistled for a clear-path foul to give Phoenix (10-3) two foul shots and possession of the ball. Bonner made both free throws and Candice Dupree added a basket to put the Mercury up 74-70 with 2:14 remaining.
Shavonte Zellous led Indiana (6-8) with 18-points, including three free throws with 42.6 seconds left to pull within one.
Phoenix closed out the game with a 3-pointer by Taurasi and four free throws by Bonner.
Brittney Griner was held to four points — all in the first half — for the Mercury.
STORM 81, LYNX 71
SEATTLE (AP) — Camille Little scored 13 of her career-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to lead last-place Seattle.
Little hit 11 of 15 shots from the field, including two 3s, and made 7 of 8 free throws as the Storm beat the Lynx for the second time in three weeks at home.
Jenna O'Hea tied a career high with 15 points, all on 3s, for Seattle (7-10), which had lost three of four. Sue Bird added 11 points and nine assists, and Crystal Langhorne had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Maya Moore had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lynx (11-5), which dropped one-half game behind Phoenix atop the Western Conference. Damiris Dantas added 12 points and Lindsay Whalen 11.
