ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — The parent company of Atlantic City's Showboat Casino Hotel says the casino will shut down on Aug. 31. Caesars Entertainment told The Associated Press this morning the company will shutter the poorest-performing of its four Atlantic City casinos. It will be the second casino to close this year in the nation's third-largest gambling market, leaving 10 operating gaming halls.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Las Vegas taxi drivers who say three cab companies owe them back wages for failing to pay the minimum wage. Yesterday's decision upholds a 2006 state constitutional amendment that did away with previous exemptions for some classes of workers. The ruling means the tax drivers can return to district court to try to prove their case against Nevada Yellow Cab, Nevada Checker Cab and Nevada Star Cab.
ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Elko police have captured a teenager accused of stealing guns in a home burglary after escaping from the Nevada Youth Training Center. Elko Police Chief Ben Reed says officers spotted the suspect near the Red Lion Casino Wednesday night, a day after he escaped.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Federal authorities ordered a Las Vegas food distributor to recall 15,000 pounds of misbranded raw pork nugget product shipped since January to southern Nevada hotels, restaurants and other eateries. The USDA says the recalled product contains wheat, an allergen that isn't declared on product labels. The action affects 10-pound cases of Mr. Wok Foods "battered, deep fried pork nugget" with the code "EST. 20783."
