SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Corporations have increased visibility this summer at gay pride parades around the country as same-sex marriage bans fall in the courts and polls show greater public acceptance of gay marriage. In Salt Lake City, American Express Co. workers carried giant letters that spelled, "Love=Love," the theme of the parade. JPMorgan Chase marchers wore T-shirts that said, "just be you." A Budweiser truck festooned with rainbow flags drove slowly through the parade, honking its horns.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A progressive group has filed a federal election complaint against Republican U.S. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah. The Alliance for a Better Utah filed the complaint after an indicted businessman told investigators he funneled $50,000 of his money to others who then donated to Lee's 2010 campaign. Lee told The Salt Lake Tribune that he and his campaign were not aware of the businessman using straw donors.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The ongoing drought has landed every Utah county on a disaster declaration list from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Duchesne and Uintah counties were the last to be added to the list this week. The designation means farmers in all 29 Utah counties can request low-interest emergency loans.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Jazz selected Australian guard Dante Exum with the fifth overall pick in the NBA draft last night. The 6-foot-6 teenager burst onto the scene at the U19 FIBA World Championship in Prague as his team advanced to the semifinals. Exum's father, Cecil, won a national championship at North Carolina in 1982 with Michael Jordan and James Worthy.
