SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An official from the Utah Veterans Affairs Medical Center says new patients often wait months for care but officials are working to speed the lag time. Associate director Shella Stovall told a military affairs panel the system is hiring more medical workers and has already added clinic hours. A report released this month shows that new patients wait an average of 73 days for care at Salt Lake City's VA hospital, the ninth worst nationwide.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gov. Gary Herbert says the state needs to pursue the same-sex marriage case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court to resolve differences of opinion over the issue. The Republican governor says his personal views on the issue are not relevant because it's his job to defend the state's laws. He has previously said he supports the ban.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Mormon leaders in Salt Lake City are trying to figure out what to do with a flagpole that was cemented onto Mount Olympus by missionaries. According to the Forest Service, the summit is a designated wilderness area where it's illegal to make any permanent installations. Hikers discovered the American flag this week on, a 9,000-foot peak on the east side of the Salt Lake valley.
