ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Elko police have captured a teenager accused of stealing guns in a home burglary after escaping from the Nevada Youth Training Center.
After a daylong manhunt, Elko Police Chief Ben Reed says officers spotted the suspect near the Red Lion Casino about 10 p.m. Wednesday.
The youth provided a fake name and told police he had hitchhiked from Utah. But officers found photos identifying him as a runaway from the youth center.
Police say he made a run for it, but officers found him hiding across the street on top of a travel trailer at the Gold Country Inn.
Police say he ditched a backpack during the chase that they later recovered with two guns stolen from an Elko residence Wednesday morning. He's been booked on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen firearms, resisting arrest and being a runaway juvenile.
