OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Members of Oklahoma's Board of Education are waiting to implement prior education standards, pending the outcome of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a recently passed law that repealed Common Core education standards in the state.
The board that oversees public education in Oklahoma voted Thursday to delay action on whether to implement math and English standards that were in place before the Common Core standards were developed.
Four members of the board joined a group of parents and teachers as plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed Wednesday that challenges the constitutionality of the Common Core repeal bill. The lawsuit alleges that the repeal was unconstitutional because it gave the Legislature too much power in establishing the new benchmarks that would replace Common Core.
