LAS VEGAS (AP) — Passenger traffic at McCarran airport has inched up compared with a year earlier. Data released today show nearly 3.8 million people arrived and departed from the Las Vegas airport in May. That's up 0.3 percent from May 2013. McCarran ranks as the ninth-busiest airport nationally. Southwest is by far its largest carrier, while United, Delta, American and Spirit round out the top five.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A judge in Washoe County has issued a preliminary injunction that temporarily halts the layoff of 32 Reno firefighters. The judge says she wants to preserve the status quo while an ongoing labor dispute between the city and the firefighters' union is pending before the Nevada Employee-Management Relations Board.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Researchers at UNLV say nearly one-third of the state's kindergarteners are overweight or obese. A report compiled by the Nevada Institute for Children's Research and Policy doesn't explain why the obesity rate ticked up, but did note that children are spending more time with video games and computers.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Nevada Supreme Court has suspended a Las Vegas criminal defense lawyer who awaits sentencing after pleading guilty to felony forgery and false instrument charges in a courthouse counseling scheme. Brian Bloomfield pleaded guilty in a case alleging that he and several others falsified court documents showing that defendants completed court-ordered counseling and community service.
