In a 6-3 vote, the justices said Aereo Inc. is violating the broadcasters' copyrights by taking the signals for free.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A vote by powerful House panel illustrates the sentiment on Capitol Hill to preserve six-day mail delivery. The Appropriations Committee has voted to restore a congressional mandate requiring the Postal Service to deliver mail on Saturdays. House GOP leaders had wanted to use money saved from ending Saturday deliveries to shore up the highway construction fund.
BAGHDAD (AP) — There are worrisome signs that the extremist insurgency that spans the neighboring countries of Syria and Iraq could morph into an even wider regional conflict. Military officials say Syrian warplanes have bombed Sunni militants' positions inside Iraq and that Iran is flying surveillance drones over the county. Secretary of State John Kerry says other nations should stay out.
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — National Republican leaders are trying to appeal to non-white voters. But in Mississippi, one of the GOP Senate candidates, Chris McDaniel, is complaining that Democrats — most of whom are black in that state— voted in the Republican runoff and helped six-term incumbent Thad Cochran capture the party's nomination. McDaniel was backed by the tea party.
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Sen. Susan Collins says she supports gay marriage. Her announcement today was the first time the Maine Republican has made it public and comes after she was endorsed by the nation's largest LGBT advocacy organization in her re-election bid. She had been criticized for keeping her view to herself.
